Aiyar apologises for fascist remark

Aiyar apologises for facist remark against Jaitley
New Delhi, May 5: Former Union Minister and nominated member in Rajya Sabha Mani Shankar Aiyar apologised for his fascist remarks against leader of the opposition Lk Advani.

Earlier, taking offence at the remarks made by Aiyar against Jaitley and senior BJP member M Venkaiah Naidu, BJP threatened to stall the proceedings of the Upper House until Aiyar apologises.

"There are several bills pending in Rajya Sabha. We want to support passage of these bills provided the words uttered by Aiyar are taken back and he apologises. Till then we will not allow the House to function," deputy leader of BJP in the Upper House SS Ahluwalia said.

The party came up with the decision at the Parliamentary Party meeting on Wednesday, May 5.

The former Union Minister called Jaitley a 'fascist' on Monday, May 3, following which the BJP members disrupted the Rajya Sabha.

Ahluwalia said that on the government's request the House was allowed to function on May 4.

"We allowed the House to function yesterday as the government requested that the Finance Bill be passed. But later in the evening we forced an adjournment on the issue," Ahluwalia said.

Pressing for an apology, Ahluwalia said that as a nominated member and a minister in UPA-I, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that Aiyar apologises for his 'unbearable remarks'.
