Facebook goes down, frantic users flood Twitter

Facebook goes down, frantic users flood Twitter
Bangalore, Apr 24: Thousands of frantic netizens turned to the micro-blogging site Twitter to tell the world that the popular social networking site, Facebook was down.

On finding that their favorite networking site was down between Friday, Apr 23 evening and Saturday, Apr 23 morning, Facebook users shared their anguish on Twitter.

The first reports of the widespread outage began at 5:40 pm Eastern Time (Apr 23). As of 6:05 pm EST, the site still appears to be down, The Huffington Post reported.

In a 6:10 pm EST update, the Post said, "Service seems to be restored for most users."

In another report on the 'outrage', abs-cbnnews.com said, that the users began complaining that Facebook is 'acting up' in  the wee hours of Saturday, Apr 24 Philippine time (or about 3 pm, Los Angeles time).

Facebook was, approximately, back up and functioning right in little over ten minutes. But in this very short span of time, Facebook became the 9th trending topic on Twitter.

Even as of Saturday, Apr 24 afternoon, 'Facebook down' is one of the hottest search terms on Google.

The wave of panic over a social networking site being down and forcing its users to a similar site to share their grievances probably serves as the best example to prove the extent of internet and social networking addiction across the world.
