Volcano ash: Europe resumes limited air travel

London, Apr 20: After volcanic ash choked air traffic for nearly a week, Europe on Tuesday, Apr 20 began allowing limited air operations to resume.

Some flights from Asia to southern Europe have already resumed, giving relief to thousands of passengers stranded in airports for days.

“We should see progressively more planes start to fly," EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas is quoted as saying on Tuesday, Apr 20.

However, the volcanic activity in Iceland is said to be escalating. This has led to more ash being spewed into the skies.

Fresh ash clouds are expected to drift towards Britain and cause more delays in the flight schedules.
