Delhi is safe for athletes: India tells Oz
Sydney, Apr 20: Amid the increased terror threat, India did its best to convince Australia that its athletes will be safe in New Delhi when they arrive for Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Oct 2010.

Security for CWG 2010 in New Delhi will be 'foolproof', assured TS Darbari, Joint Director General of the organising committee of the Commonwealth Games.

The senior official, who is leading an Indian delegation to Australia, accompanying the Baton Relay, added that the potential threats have already been identified and thwarted.

Further, he rejected the speculation over the lack of security for the competitors" family members and supporters.

“Delhi is very, very safe (and) secure, not only for the sports people who are coming but also for their families and for the tourists," Mr. Darbari told a Australian news agency.

There is an increased threat perception following the Saturday, Apr 18 bomb blasts at Bangalore's Chinnaswamy Stadium ahead of an IPL match. The bomb scare forced the IPL organizers to move the semi-finals out of Bangalore to Mumbai.

The Home Ministry has also advised the Maharashtra police to stay alert raising question if Mumbai's DY Patil is a safe venue for the semi-finals or not.
