Even men get postnatal depression

Melbourne, Apr 20 (ANI): Postnatal depression is not just restricted to women, new dads too get hit with the blues.

According to Beyond Blue deputy chief executive Dr Nicole Highet, the growing number of stay-at-home dads, additional financial stress and not being prepared for the full extent of the challenges, make men vulnerable, thereby putting them at increased postnatal depression risk, reports The Couriermail.

"A lot of men still view depression as a weakness," she told The Advertister.

Post and Antenatal Depression Association Australia chief executive Belinda Horton said: "There's still the misconception that it only happens to women. Men are almost the forgotten sufferers in a way." (ANI)

Washington, Mar 4: Psychological distress, but not depression, may increase the risk of stroke, a recent study suggests. ''Stroke is among the leading causes of long-term disability and death worldwide,'' said author Paul Surtees, from the University of Cambridge. The study conducted on 20,627 people, showed 595 participants suffered a stroke and 28 per cent of these strokes were fatal. Researchers found that psychological distress was the reason for an increased risk of stroke and escalates even more with increased stress.....
