Congress Core group meet favours Tharoor's resignation ?

New Delhi, April 18 (ANI): The Congress core group, which met at the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence at 7, Race Course Road here in the capital on Sunday evening, is believed to have favoured Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor should resign from his post as minister.

There is a reported indication from party insiders that the Core Group may have decided to ask Tharoor to submit his resignation.

Meanwhile, Tharoor has reached the Prime Minister's official residence for consultations following the core group meeting.

Unconfirmed reports suggest, that a decision for his resignation will be conveyed to him.

Earlier, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram, Defense Minister A.K.Antony, and Sonia's political secretary Ahmed Patel attended the meet held at PM's residence.

The crucial meet, held to decide about Tharoor's fate today, lasted for two hours from 7.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.

Minutes after the core group meet was over, Prime Minister Dr. Singh reportedly asked Tharoor to see him at the 7, Race Course Road.

Soon, Tharoor was seen arriving at PM's residence in a white car without the Red beacon.

Earlier, in the wake of the today's meeting, Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi had denied that his party was reeling under any pressure following the Tharoor issue.

On Sunday morning, unconfirmed reports stated that during his meeting with the Prime Minister at his official residence, Tharoor had offered to resign from his Cabinet post over the Kochi IPL fiasco. (ANI)
