Normalcy returns to violence-hit Kalinga Nagar town in Orissa

Kalinga Nagar/Bhubaneshwar, Apr 4(ANI): Normalcy has been restored in Orissa's Kalinga Nagar town that witnessed violence during protests by tribals opposing construction of the Common Corridor Road (CCR), a top district official said on Sunday.

On March 30, at least five people were injured in a clash between police and tribals opposing construction of the CCR in Kalinga Nagar, the steel hub of Orissa.

The tribals have been opposing the construction of the road, saying that the road was being built on their agricultural land. owever, officials said that the road is a lifeline of the region and is vital for its development.

Later, the tribals put off their protest on the assurance of the district officials.

"The situation is quite normal and the road work is continuing...some people on March 30 had tried to obstruct, but police were able to control the situation and now it is going on peacefully," Jajpur District Magistrate, Pramod Kumar Mohanty, told reporters in Bhubaneshwar.

The 12,000-acre Kalinga Nagar complex, some 100 kilometres from Bhubaneswar, has about 10 industrial units and steel plants. (ANI)

Normalcy returning to Punjab, railway traffic resumes

Chandigarh, May 27 (ANI): Punjab is slowly returning to normal, as railway traffic has resumed in the state.Besides local train services, two special trains have left for Delhi from Jammu.Hundreds of goods trucks, which were also stranded due to the violence, started leaving for their destinations today.Meanwhile, curfew has been relaxed in Ludhiana, Jallandhar and Hoshiarpur.Army, paramilitary and Punjab police personnel, however, continue to patrol areas worst affected by the violence of the last two.....
