Maoists blow up rly tracks, blast bridge
Jharkhand/West Bengal Mar 22: In a violent start to the 48-hour bandh called by CPI(Maoist) in protest against the Operation Green Hunt, the rebels blew up a stretch of land along the railway track between Midnapore and Godapia Sal stations.

However, the district magistrate NS Nigam said that the tracks were not damaged in the blast which occured at Bhalukkhunia.

"Through such incidents, the Maoists are trying to divert the attention of the combined forces engaged in the combing operation to flush out Maoists from the Jangalmahal area", Nigam said.

The train services have been disrupted as security checks were being carried out in the area.

Earlier, on Sunday Mar 21, the rebels blew up a road bridge in Ghatshila sub-division of East Singhbhum district. The Naxals used landmine to blow up the bridge connecting Musaboni and Dumaria, Ghatshila SDPO Anup Birtheray said.

The 48-hour bandh has been called in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and three districts of Maharashtra - Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.
