Islamabad, Mar 20: Similar to the Jan 2010 outcry in India over an advertisement featuring Pakistan air force chief alongside Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, people of Pakistan has taken offense to an advertisement published in several Pakistan newspapers on Friday, Mar 19.

The advertisement by the police force in Punjab province featured a logo of Indian Punjab police triggering off outcry across the country. The ad was published in the first page of many English and Urdu newspapers.

The advertisement appealed to people to remain vigilant and cooperate with police to prevent terrorist attacks and other crimes. At the bottom of the advertisement, the logo of the police force's Indian counterpart was placed next to the words 'Punjab Police'.

Pakistan's Punjab Police chief Tariq Saleem Dogar has blamed the company responsible for printing the advertisement for the goof-up.

About two months ago, a similar incident surfaced in India. Indians were enraged to find that a government advertisement featured that picture of former Pakistan air force chief Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed alongside not only the PM but also Sonia Gandhi, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath, and cricketers Kapil Dev and Virender Sehwag. The advertisement on female foeticide was published in a leading daily on 'National Girl Child Day.'
