RR Patil rules out leniency against MNS
Mumbai, Mar 19: Responding to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) remark of being lenient to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), state Home Minister R R Patil on Thursday, Mar 18 said there was no question of being lenient against law-breakers.

"We will look into it (NHRC order). There is no question of being lenient against law-breakers. We have registered 73 cases against MNS activists so far," said Patil.

NHRC has slammed the Maharashtra government for its incompetence in protecting two migrants, who were killed during an MNS agitation against north- Indians in 2008.

"It is unfortunate the state government did not muster political will to rein in divisive forces", NHRC said while directing the state to pay compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the victims.

The two victims, Vinod Singh and Amba Das lost their lives during the MNS anti North-Indians campaign

Vinod Singh, a security guard in Jindal Company, was killed in the violence at Nashik on February 13, 2008.

Amba Das succumbed to injuries which he sustained when the mobs pelted stones on a
bus carrying him and his HAL colleagues on Mumbai-Nasik highway on the same day.
