Dubai: Indian, her supervisor jailed for sexting

Dubai: Indian, her supervior jailed for sexting
Dubai, Mar 18: In yet another incident indicating the growing hostility towards foreigners in Dubai, an Indian flight attendant and her cabin services supervisor were found guilty of indecent behaviour as they were sending each other sexually explicit text messages.

Convicted for 'coercion to commit sin', the Emirate airlines cabin crew members were slapped with a six month prison term. However, the jail term was later reduced to the three months and the deportation orders were lifted on appeal, The National reported.

The case reportedly began when the husband of the flight attendant filed a case against his wife accusing her of being in an illicit relationship with her supervisor. The lawsuit was filed a year ago during a three year long divorce battle which began in 2007.

This comes amid a string of indecency cases lodged against foreigners in the country.

Recently, a British couple caught kissing in public were sentenced to a one month jail term. In Nov 2009, a British man was arrested for kissing and touching his female friend intimately in public.

In yet another case in 2008, a couple faced lawsuit and escaped jail term after they were found guilty of indulging in sexual acts out of wedlock while drunk.

The growing hostility towards foreigners in the country stemmed from the fact that growing outsider population has challenged the local population. It was the tax free earnings, tourism and the trade that attracted foreigners into Dubai.

With the Emiratis outnumbered by the foreigners, there are concerns over the threat to the social and religious identity of the conservative country.

You dont hear news in Dubai because the news are filtered. Everything is watched in Dubai. Even your telephone calls are traced using recording equipments which automatically look for keywords. If you utter some keywords then a person is assigned to listen to all your conversations. It is a controlled environment which wants people to believe that they are free when they actually are not. If you havent lived there long enough you will realise it soon.
