New Delhi, Mar 17: In major setback for former Andhra Pradesh governor N D Tiwari, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, Mar 17 rejected his plea challenging the paternity suit filed by 34-year-old Rohit Shekhar, who claims to be his son.

The division bench of Justices Vikramjit Sen and Manmohan Singh dismissed Tiwari's plea, stating that there was enough evidence to prove the jurisdiction of this court.

Tiwari had sought the dismissal of the suit on the grounds that the petition was filed 31 years after the petitioner was born.

Shekhar's lawyer, Senior advocate PS Patwali said that the civil suit had to be failed in the wake of Tiwari's refusal to accept Shekhar as his son.

In his petition, Shekhar said that Tiwari began to neglect Shekhar and his mother Ujjawala Sharma after 1995 and refused to meet him at Tiwari's residence in Delhi and in Uttaranchal after he became the chief minister.The former Chief Minister stirred up controversy after a video purportedly showing 86-year-old Tiwari with three young women in bed was aired in a news channel on Dec 25, 2009.

Following which Tiwari resigned as the Andhra Pradesh governor on moral grounds.
