Inflation surges to 9.89 pc in Feb 2010
New Delhi, Mar 15: Led by the excise duty hike on fuel announced in Union Budget 2010, and increase in prices of food items, Inflation surged to 9.89 per cent as against the Jan 2010 rate of 8.56 per cent.

In Feb 2010, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced an increase of CET by Re 1/litre
which led to rise in fuel prices. Petrol prices went up by 11.73 per cent while high-speed diesel prices surged 9 per cent. As per the official data released on Monday, Mar 15, the overall fuel index has gone up by 1.5 per cent.

While sugar prices went up bu 55.47 per cent in Feb 2010 from Feb 2009, potato price rose by 30 per cent and pulses by 35.58 per cent.

Steps taken to bring down Inflation: G K Pillai

Mumbai, Aug 22: Union Secretary for Commerce, G K Pillai on Friday, Aug 22 hinted a possible decline in inflation rate that touched a 13-year high of 12.63 per cent in the week ending August 9. Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of an international conference on Special Economic Zones (SEZ) here, he said that the cabinet committee on prices was closely reviewing the situation periodically and steps were being initiated to contain the prices. LPG saved can be used instead of petrol and HSD on much cost effective basis. Similarly with infinite free solar thermal energy in India can dehydrate global food produce to lengthen its shelf life by 100 tomes making India the largest food bank rather than largest importer at present. This can happen if India does away with the habit of providing mineral water priced LPG / SKO and free electricity which is having no logic other than getting votes of those who cannot understand energy...

Fuel and food inflation can become history by passive thermal solar energy. 120 crore Indians can save LPG , kerosene and electricity worth Rs. 1000 crore per sunny day by using free and infinite solar energy there by cutting cooking and water heating energy cost by Rs. 250000 crore each year on 200 to 300 sunny days. Parabolic cooker can even be used on sunny hour basis. As total expenditure on 66% subsidized SKO and LPG is around Rs. 50000 crore each year fuel inflation will bite the dust....
