New Delhi, Mar 15: The government has taken a step back on the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill by deferring the introduction of the bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Mar 15.
"I have a request from the Minister Prithviraj Chavan that government does not intend to introduce the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill today," Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar announced.
The bill, which is a key step towards the implementation of Indo-US nuclear deal, was scheduled to be introduced on Monday, Mar 15.
The bill triggered off protests from the Opposition. Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj demanded that a motion had to be moved for withdrawal of the bill from the agenda.
The speaker dismissed the demand saying that the motion can not be moved as the bill is yet to be introduced in the house.
Senior BJP leader LK Advani sought an explanation from the government as to why the bill was not introduced.
