New Delhi, Mar 11: Bowing to the pressure from the Opposition, the government on Thursday, Mar 11 announced that the government will consult all sections before the controversial Women's Reservation Bill is brought up in the Lok Sabha.
The impasse between the government and the opposition ended after a meeting between the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and anti women's reservation bill leaders leaders such as SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and JD(U) President Sharad Yadav.
The meeting was also attended by UPA allies like Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and DMK leader TR Baalu.
After the discussions, Mukherjee told the Lok Sabha that some sort of assurance was sought on the progress of the Constitution Amendment Bill (Women"s Reservation Bill) before bringing it to the Lok Sabha.
"Government will complete the process of consultations with all concerned," Mr Mukherjee said in a statement
“I think, this assurance would assuage the feelings of all members and the business would be conducted smoothly," he added
