Enrolment process of UID by end of 2010: Nilekani

Indore, Mar 10: Unique Identification Authority Chairman Nandan Nilekani has said that the enrolment process for alloting Unique Identification (UID) number will start by the end of 2010.

"If everything goes as planned, then the enrolment process for allotting UID number to all citizens of the country would begin by the end of this year," Nilekani said during an interaction with the students of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore.

Nilekani said that the pilot project for the scheme would commence in the coming months.

Earlier, Nilekani had said that the 16-digit UID number will be handed over to 600 million people by the end of 2014.
