Osmania B Tech student commits suicide over 'T'

Hyderabad, Mar 9: The delay over the formation of separate Telangana claimed the life of another student. A student of the Osmania University committed suicide on Tuesday, Mar 9 as he was grieved by the delay in the formation of Telangana state.

Sai Kumar, a second year B Tech student was found hanging in his hostel room in the campus. Kumar purportedly left behind a sucide note in which he cited the delay over creation of Telangana as the reason for the extreme step.

According to police, Kumar, who was taken to a hospital by some of his hostel inmates who saw him hanging his room, was declared dead in the hospital.

The incident has sparked off fresh violence in the university, which is the nerve centre of the Telangana agitation, as students gathered in larged numbers shouted the 'Jai Telangana' slogan.

Considering the tense situation, the exams scheduled for Tuesday, Mar 8 and Wednesday, Mar 9 has been postponed by the university authorities.

The suicide by the Kumar adds to the list of students who have ended their lives for the cause of Telangana.

On Feb, a pro-Telangana student of 12 standard set himself on fire infront of the protesting university students at main entrance of Osmania University.

In another incident, the self-immolated body of an MCA student was found in the University campus on Jan 19.

Meanwhile the pro-Telangana parties have claimed that over 300 students and youth have ended their life since the protest began in Nov 2009.

The numbers of the victims do not have any independent confirmation.

A bright young life lost under such circumstances makes one question the reason for emotional intensity of the person. 'Misguided youth' is the term that comes to mind. Why does one need to commit suicide for a public cause in a democracy when other avenues are available for expression? The society, politicians, academics and parents need to look at how the youth of the country thinks. Such acts need to be discouraged rather than make martyrs of victims.

wishing condolenses to the bereved family members and hope the vested cunning/wicked T-political parties do not take political advantage out of the grief for common man in T-region. shanti prayers/pujas/yagnas may be performed at ou campus for protection of students. the students may chant name of their respective gods for mental strength and protection from evil of politics of T.
