UK: Indian doc removes infant's bladder by mistake
London, Mar 5: An Indian-origin doctor, who cut out majority of an infant's bladder during an hernia operation, faces serious consequences as the General Medical Council (GMC) is set to decide whether to impose sanctions on the doctor's responsibilities at work later this month.

The medical panel, which heard the case of medical negligence, termed it 'catastrophic' and is due to give its decision by the end of Mar 2010.

Pierina Kapur gained her medical qualifications from the University of London in 1991. In the Oct 2008 surgery, Kapur cut out the majority of the bladder after mistaking it for the hernial sac.

Even as the infant's health continued to deteriorate, the doctor failed to order an ultrasound.

Due to the negligence on the part of Kapur, child will be forced to use a catheter for the rest of her life.
