Housemates of murdered Indian student Nitin Garg return to India from 'unsafe' Oz

Melbourne, Feb. 24 (ANI): Two housemates of Indian student Nitin Garg, who was killed in a racist attack in Melbourne, have returned to India citing safety fears.

One housemate, who did not want to be named, said that his parents demanded him to leave Australia because of the spate of racist attacks on Indian students.

"They were called home by their parents who were worried about what was happening here in Melbourne," News.com.au quoted the housemate, who lived at Garg's former home in Newport, as saying.

Meanwhile, in what could turn out to be a breakthrough in Nitin Garg's murder in Melbourne, a witness has revealed that he saw a teenager fighting at Cruickshank Park minutes before the Indian student was stabbed.

A regular customer at Hungry Jacks has told Victoria Police that the youth - aged 16 or 17 - was in the area where the restaurant's nightshift worker was involved in a struggle.

Within minutes, 21-year-old Garg had suffered stab wounds to his upper body while walking to the restaurant to start his shift, the Herald Sun reports.

Garg, who lived in Newport, was working at the Hungry Jack's to pay for his studies in Melbourne.

Police say the informant is credible and have asked him to get in touch again. (ANI)
