WB: Maoists end truce; attack police camp
Midnapore, Feb 23: In what seemed be an indication to the end of the conditional ceasefire offer, Maoists attacked the police camp in Kantapahari in West Midnapore district, just hours after the offer on Tuesday, Feb 23.

Talking about the attack in which one of the suspected Maoist-backed People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) member, was killed, Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma said the naxals fired at the Kantapahari camp.

"The PCPA members, with a number of Maoists among them, obviously had plans to attack the Kantapahari camp but the jawans were alert and repulsed them," Verma said.

Additional forces have been dispatched to the area following the attack. The slain militant is believed to be Lalmohan Tudu, a PCPA activist.

The attack came just hours after the Maoists leader Kishenji offered 72 days conditional truce to the Center, stating the Maoists were ready to lay down arms if the Center stops Operation Green Hunt.

"State governments and the Center should not indulge in violence between February 25 and May 7 and concentrate on development of tribal areas which will be reciprocated by Maoists," he said.
