Pillai says no new threat to sporting events in the country

New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): Home Secretary GK Pillai has said there are no new threat to sporting events in the country.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here on Monday, Pillai said: " At the moment there are no credible threats to any of the sporting events in India but still, we take all the maximum precautions, and we will continue to take the maximum precautions in the coming months also."

Pillai also ruled out the possibility of outsourcing the Commonwealth Games security, saying the government was capable of doing so.

"Every visitor including participants, organisers and their family members will be provided full security," he said.

The ministry had thoroughly reviewed the security arrangements for the hockey World Cup beginning February 28, the Commonwealth Games and the Indian Premier League after the Pune blast. (ANI)

Australia doubles its spy numbers since 2001

Canberra, Dec 28: An influx of Chinese spies has forced Australia's home espionage agency into a recruiting drive to counter the threat as well as that posed by Muslim extremists, a newspaper report said today. The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) has doubled the number of foreign-language speakers in its ranks since 2004, with most newcomers fluent in Chinese, the Australian daily reported, citing unnamed sources.
