2008 rioting case: Raj surrenders, gets bail
Jalgaon (Maharashtra): In what seems to be an easy way out for the MNS chief Raj Thackeray, the local court on Monday, Feb 22, released Thackeray on bail, just hours after surrendering before the court in connection with the rioting case registered against him in 2008.

Thackeray, who was accompanied by his lawyer, Sayaji Nangre was granted bail by judicial magistrate (first class) in Chopra area on a bond of Rs 7,000.

On Oct 21, 2008, Thackeray was arrested in Ratnagiri in connection with the anti-north Indians campaign launched by his party.

His arrest resulted in riots in Mumbai and various parts of the state, following which Thackeray and his supporters where booked under several cases.

Thackeray, who was booked under sections 143 (offence against public tranquillity), 109 (abetment of offence), 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act which endangers human life) and 427 (mischief) received bail in all the cases.
