Karnataka to continue with CET, COMED-K exams

K'taka continues with CET, COMED-K exams
Bangalore, Feb 20: Karnataka will continue to hold CET and COMED-K exams separately as the private engineering colleges rejected the government's proposal to merge the exams at a meeting held here on Friday, Feb 19.

The government, however, has offered to allot seats to the private colleges that wish to set CET as their entrance test.

The seat sharing formula remains unchanged at 50:50 ratio between government and private college managements. The seat-sharing ratio for minority institutions will be 45 per cent and the rest will go to private managements.

The fee structure for 2010 CET finalised during the meet is going to add to the woes of the students who fall under the General Merit category as fees for these candidates has been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 per year.

However, the fees for the 'poor meritorious' category will remain the same as last year"s Rs 15,000 per year, informed Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali.

The following is an outline of the decisions finalised at the meeting:

- CET and COMEDK will continue to be held seperately

Seat Sharing

- Government CET quota 50 per cent

- Management and NRI quota 50 per cent

- Government quota in minority Institutions 45 per cent

- Management quota in minority Institutions 55 per cent

Fee Structure

- Fees for general merit candidates and other quotes has been put up at Rs 30,000 per year

- Fees for poor meritorious candidates remains unchaged at Rs 15,000 per year

- Fees for poor meritorious students seeking lateral entry is Rs 15,000 per year

- Fees for other candidates seeking lateral entry is Rs 25,000 per year
