Twenty20 in danger of being affected by fixers: FICA chief

London, Feb.17 (ANI): The chief executive of FICA, the global union for international cricketers, has warned that Twenty20 cricket is in danger of being affected by the "cancer" of fixers.

"Lord Condon, who headed up the International Cricket Council's anti-corruption unit, said last year we can never beat this cancer - and the shorter the game, the more influence each particular incident can have," The Mirror quoted May, as saying.

"Twenty20 opens up a great deal of opportunities for bookmakers to try to corrupt the players into providing various different outcomes in the game, if not the result itself. Cricket has to be very, very careful," May added.

May was speaking as the England cricket team, which is currently in Dubai, was placed on match-fixing alert.

The Arabian peninsula is a place favoured by illegal bookies and India have refused all invitations to play in Dubai, because they fear their superstars would be a target.

England's players have been reminded to report any approaches made to tem during their week-long stopover in Dubai. (ANI)

Miandad issues warning over impact of Twenty20

Karachi, Sept 23: Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has warned that the continued promotion of Twenty20 cricket poses a threat to the traditional bastions of the sport, particularly at test level. ''They (the International Cricket Council) are turning cricket into baseball. In their bid to further commercialise and globalise the sport they are ruining its traditional character and spirit,'' Miandad told Reuters today. Pakistan will face India tomorrow in the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup final in South Africa but the country's highest.....
