Sushma appeals for Fonseka's immediate release
New Delhi, Feb 10: Disturbed by the news of the arrest of defeated Sri Lankan presidential candidate, former army chief General Sarath Fonseka, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj has on Wednesday, Feb 10, demanded his immediate release.

"We are disturbed by the news reports about the arrest and detention of General Sarath Fonseka, the opposition candidate in the recent presidential elections in Sri Lanka," Swaraj said in a statement.

Sushma requested President Mahinda Rajapaksha to free Fonseka, adding that being the largest democratic country, India cannot overlooked the political tensions in its neighboring country.

"We call upon president Mahinda Rajapaksa to ensure the safety and well-being of the opposition leader and request his release immediately," Swaraj said.

Swaraj's appeal comes in line with the party's repeated appeal to the government to take up the issue of security of Tamil refugees in Sri Lanka.

sarath fonseka was not taken by legal custody.he was abducted at his office in brutal manner. Rajapaksha family and some officials miss behaving for a specific person's wild command. S.F is a real power machine.
