VHP slams WB, AP Muslim reservation politics

VHP slams WB, AP for appeasing politics
New Delhi, Feb 9: West Bengal government's decision to allot 10 per cent reservation in state jobs to Muslims in the OBC category as drawn flak from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which said that the move will led to more conversions.

Terming the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee-led government's decision as 'unconstitutional', VHP leader Pravin Togadia said that this would only encourage conversions.

"Those who argue that Muslims are poor and therefore they turn to jehad are living in a fool's paradise. Engineers, pilots and other professionals from well-to-do families are also involved in jehad," he said on Tuesday, Feb 9.

West Bengal's government's decision came at the time when the Andhra Pradesh High Court rejected the Muslim Quota Bill on Monday, Feb 9.

On this, Togadia said accused both the governments of indulging in politics to appease minorities.

The Andhra Pradesh's Muslim Quota Bill, which allowed 4 per cent reservation for Muslims in educational institutions, was one of the biggest electoral promises of the ruling Congress government.

However, the AP High Court bench found the Bill unsustainable and rejected it.
