Sweden: Muslim man wins handshake case

Sweden: Muslim man wins handshake case
Stockholm, Feb 9: A Muslim man has won the discrimination case against Sweden"s unemployment agency, for kicking him out of the job training program, after he refused to shake hands with a woman.

Calling it a religious discrimination, the Stockholm court on Monday, Feb 8, ordered the Public Employment Service to pay 50,000 kronor ($6,700) in damages to the man, who had lost the unemployment benefits following the incident.

The man was thrown out of the job training program by the agency after he refused to shake hands with a woman during his interview, citing his faith.

However, there is no clear report on whether an appeal will be filed against the verdict.
