United Nations, Feb 8: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which has come under global scrutiny over an error in its 2007 report on Himalayan glaciers' early disappearance, has found support in the United Nations environment chief, Achim Steiner.

“The IPCC is as fallible as the human beings that comprise it," said Steiner, arguing that a 'typographical error' led to the glacier error.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) head supported his argument saying that one original source of the IPCC report had spoken of the world"s glaciers melting by 2350, as against 2035 published in IPCC's report.

In an op-ed piece published in the Turkish national daily, Today"s Zaman, Steiner slams the media for using the green goof-up to reject the reality of climate change.

“Some in the media, and those who are sceptical about climate change, are currently having a field day, parsing every comma and cough in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change"s (IPCC) 2007 assessment," Mr Steiner wrote in the article titled 'No time to put climate science on ice'.

He went on to say that IPCC was not 'sensationalist' and advised the world against undermining the panel.
