Delhi HC upholds lifer to MAMC rape case convict

'Savage' rapist deserves lifer: Delhi HC
New Delhi, Feb 8: The Delhi High court upheld the life imprisonment sentence given to the prime convict in the 2002 Maulana Azad Medical College student rape case.

The high court bench which passed the ruling on Monday, Feb 8 upholding the life imprisonment sentence given to the convict Rahul, said that he had “not only as a beast but even acted savage."

However, the banch headed by Justice Pradeep Nandrajog acquitted the other convict Amit and asked the police to release him,. Amit has already spent seven years in prison.

In 2005, a trial court found Amit and Rahul guilty of raping a medical student in Nov 2002. The victim was raped at knifepoint on the terrace of the Mughal monument 'Khooni Darwaza" in central Delhi.

The case invited the attention of the media as the police filed chargesheets against four accused, namely Rahul, Amit, Mohan Lal and Ashok.

The other two accused, Mohan Lal and Ashok were aquitted by the trail court, while Rahul and Amit were sentenced to life imprisonment.
