Colombo, Feb 6: In an extension of its operations on LTTE hideouts, the hideout of the slain LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran was busted by the Sri Lankan security forces.

A huge cache of weapons and files containing "classified information" was recovered from the hide-out which was used by the slain LTTE supremo for the last 30 years.

17 suicide jackets, 8 claymore mines, 300 kg of C-4 explosives and 7,000 jonny mines, including documents and 56 compact discs were recovered by the forces, headed by SSP Quintus Raymond.

According to the police, the discovered materials where hidden underground.

The search operation is part of the security forces' move to raid the hideouts of former stronghold of the Tamil Tigers, which started after the end of the three decade civil war in May 2009.

Arms manufacturing factory reportedly run by the Tamil Tigers near the hideouts was destroyed while the Tigers were on the run.

Briefing about the operation, prime minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said that the security forces were engaged in a continued operations in the Wanni region to recover weapons and ammunition.

"Security Forces are engaged in operational activities even after the completion of humanitarian operations and that even now hauls of weapons are found hidden in certain places in the North. In Wanni the security forces has come across many mines and has unearthed many mysterious things," he said in parliament.

The ongoing investigation by police and the security forces is strengthened by the files relating to Prabhakaran, his family members and his close associates.

Prabhakaran has reportedly used the hideout in Wanni during the last phase of the war.
