Make SRK in-charge of Hockey India: former player
Bhopal, Feb 2: In an attempt to revive Indian Hockey, which has been marred by mismanagement in the recent past, Olympian Aslam Sher Khan has asked Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to make the bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan in-charge of Hockey India.

"Soon after independence, Jawaharlal Nehru made JRD Tata the first president of Indian Hockey Federation and he was in that post for 10 years. Similarly, Rahul can persuade Shah Rukh to take charge of the affairs of Hockey India," Khan said.

Khan added that Shah Rukh's association with the game would revive the interest in the national game.

"If the film star gets associated with hockey, the game would get a big boost. His name would be big enough to help the national game," he added.

Khan said that Shah Rukh, who played the role of Kabir Khan, coach of women's hockey team In Chak De India, was also a hockey player during his college days and his father too was a hockey player.

"Chak De India was based on hockey and Shah Rukh himself knows the game," he said.

He added that India's victory in 1983 World Cup Cricket in England spelled the end of hockey in the country.

"Hockey has been India's pride but it declined after India won the cricket World Cup in 1983," said the former Congress MP.
