Don't worry, US travel advisory routine: PC

PC plays down US travel advisory
New Delhi, Feb 1: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram brushed aside the latest US travel advisory warning its citizens of terror attacks in India as 'routine'.

"These are routine advisories issued by the US from time to time," the minister said on Monday, Feb 1 at a news conference.

"They have issued in the past also. In 2009, they have issued in two-three occasions. I don't think it was based on any new information nor do I think that it was intended to send any alarm signal. I think it was a routine advisory and it should be seen as such," he added.

The latest travel advisory from US Department of State was released on Jan 30 alerting American nationals of possible terror strikes in India.

Reminding its citizens of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks during which foreigners were particularly targeted, the advisory asked them to practise good security, maintain a heightened situational awareness and a low profile.

This advisory replaced the one issued in Dec 2009, which was effective till Apr 2010.

These advisories often invoke fear among Indians who consider it as a serious warning against confirmed terror plots.
