Shun violence & come for talks: Omar to militants
Jammu, Jan 27: At the backdrop of the unending terror attacks in the valley, Jammu Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has urged militants to shun violence and come to the negotiation table.

Abdullah made this statement during his Republic Day address. He expressed hope that militants will drop guns forever as better sense prevails upon them.

“This will be in their larger interest and in the interest of people," he said.

Stating that nothing is achieved through violence, the chief minister asked the militants to come for talks.

“Nothing has so for been achieved or will be achieved by bloodshed. Dialogue is the only means to address the problems and solve issues in a conducive atmosphere. We will act as a facilitator in the dialogue process among all groups of opinion in the State and the Centre, besides working for the restoration of India-Pakistan composite talks," Abdullah added.

The chief minister said that youth and technology are two indispensable parts of development.

“I have recognized technology and young people as the two important aspects on which development and prosperity of a nation is dependent. It is for these facts that I have flagged both as important concerns having co-relation," he said.

He added that the announcement of a comprehensive employment policy for the youth was major achievement in the 60-year history of the State.

Omar Abdullah escapes bid on life in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 9: National Conference (NC) President and former Union Minister, Omar Abdullah, today escaped an attempt on his life when suspected militants fired two rifle grenades near the venue of his public meeting at Handwara in Kupwara district of Kashmir, sources said. They said militants fired rifle grenade towards the house of NC block president Sharifudin Ahmed, where Mr Abdullah was having tea after addressing the public gathering at Sappar Naghama, Qaziabad in Handwara area this afternoon......
