Most Americans want Obama to concentrate on economy: Poll

Washington, Jan. 27 (ANI): Ahead of Barack Obama's State of the Union address tonight, most Americans want the US President to devote more time on the gloomy economy, a new poll has found.

According to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC survey, 51 percent of Americans believe that Obama has paid "too little attention" to the economy, and forty-four percent think he has paid "too much attention" to his proposed overhaul of health care.

A majority of voters thinks that Obama's health-care plan is a bad idea.

The poll also found that the number of Americans who feel the country is headed in the wrong direction has risen to 58 percent, the highest number since before Obama's inauguration.

With tonight's address, Obama will try to recover from a difficult year and try to strengthen the Democratic Party to minimize election losses in November.

The poll shows that the public is likely to welcome the policy shift, which the White House has put into high gear since the Democrats' loss of a Senate seat in Massachusetts.

The number of people who approve of the job Obama is doing on the economy went up to 47 percent, five points up from the December survey.

And only 27 percent voters they wouldn't vote for Obama in the November congressional elections.

While the numbers are still grim, they suggest tha Obama's months-long slide in the polls might have stabilized. (ANI)
