Malay Indian party's call for separate local channel welcomed

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 27 (ANI): Malaysian Indian Congress Youth chief T. Mohan call for a separate channel for Astro to air locally-produced programmes has been welcomed.

Mohan had said that some of the programmes or serial dramas sourced from private television stations in South India were also unsuitable for Malaysian viewers.

He said the violence and obscenity in Tamil films was a bad influence on many youngsters, adding that a channel for locally-produced programmes would give the opportunity for locals to showcase their talents and help them receive acclaim.

The newspaper also hoped Astro would look into helping local artists to become trained as professionals, The Star reports. ANI)

250 Malay Tamil families may not celebrate Pongal

Kuala Lumpur, Jan.13 (ANI): About 250 Malay Indian and Malay Tamil families in the Kampung Pandan Indian settlement are worried that they would not be able to celebrate Pongal (Harvest Festival) tomorrow as they have received final notices from the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) to vacate their houses by today.A Malaysia Nanban report said the families had been living there for the past 70 years. In earlier letters to the residents, DBKL requested the residents to move into rental.....
