New Delhi, Jan 27: Central Information Commissioner (CIC) refused to disclose the passengers list which was sought under the RTI Act, on the grounds that the information does not served any public interest.
The CIC was responding to the plea of ex-Navy official Manish Thakur who is accused of murdering his girlfriend Kaushambi Layek, an employee of Tata Consultancy Service on May 14, 2007,.
"The appellant has neither indicated as to how he is affected in the matter or what is the public interest in disclosure of the details of passengers, the denial of information u/s 8(1)(j) of the Act is therefore justified," the Commission said.
Making use of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Thakur, who is currently lodged in Mumbai's Arthur Road Prison, had sought the details of passengers on board Indian Airlines flights from Mumbai to Goa on May 13, and 14, 2007.
His appeal was turned down by the aviation company referring to the exemption clauses of RTI Act, stating that the disclosure does not serve any public interest.
