Haiti miracle: Man survives 14 days after being buried in killer quake

Port-au-Prince, Jan. 27 (ANI): Fourteen days after being buried by Haiti's killer quake, a 35-year-old man has been pulled out alive from the rubble of a collapsed building in the capital of the Caribbean nation.

Rico Dibrivell was covered in dust and dressed only in underpants when he was carried out from the ruins of a building, The Telegraph reports.

Dibrivell would be one of the world's longest survivors of an earthquake if it is proved that he was trapped under rubble for 14 days.

However, experts on the scene said it was possible that he had been caught in more recent days when a damaged building collapsed. He did not appear to have serious injuries.

According to doctors, victims of past disasters have survived - with access to water - for as many as 14 days, but three to five days is typically the longest a healthy, uninjured person can last without food or water.

Dibrivell's survival time matched that of a 27-year-old man who was pulled alive after being trapped in a Philippines hotel during the 1990 earthquake.

The unlikelihood of finding survivors has prompted many rescue teams to pull out of Haiti, and the government is expected to call off the search for survivors soon. (ANI)
