Bangalore hosts kite festival on Republic Day

Bangalore, Jan 27 (ANI): Republic Day in Bangalore was marked by a maiden kite festival on Tuesday.

On the sprawling grounds of Bangalore Palace, hundreds of enthusiastic kite fliers and spectators converged to display their skills with kites of all hues and shapes like the traditional dragons and Charlie Chaplin.

This event was organised by the Junior Chambers International (JCI) and the proceeds from the fest were donated for the welfare of orphaned children.

While the participants and other visitors had to pay rupees 99, it was free for the under-teenaged children.

"We are glad that we have over 300 different types of kites. Bangalore is having it (kite festival) for the first time on Republic Day. Thousands of children are going to come. We have distributed number of passes to students, freely, below 12 years of age," said Jaycee Jetmal Jain, organiser of the Kite Festival.

"This time we have in Bangalore. It is huge privilege for Bangaloreans. I enjoyed it a lot because I got to see many colourful kites. It is just amazing," said Bhavana, a visitor.

Last week, Kerala organised similar event on the beachside near Kochi in which several foreigners took part. (ANI)

Cauvery: Complete shutdown of K'taka on Feb 12

Bangalore, Feb 10: Karnataka will be completely shutdown on Feb 12 from 6 am to 6pm to support statewide bandh called by Kannada organisations against the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal verdict.
