China denies role in Google cyber attacks
Beijing, Jan 25: The Chinese government has issued statements denying its involvement in alleged cyber attacks on Google.

The statements, issued on Monday, Jan 25, come nearly two weeks after Google threatened to pull out of the country.

"Any accusation that the Chinese government participated in (any) cyber attack, either in an explicit or inexplicit way, is groundless and aims to denigrate China," a Chinese official was quoted by Xinhua as saying.

"China's policy on Internet safety is transparent and consistent," he said

He also noted that US with the biggest online community was itself the "biggest victim" of hacking.

The Global Times, in its editorial, has also said that the United States itself was a major source of hack attacks.

"The US is the first country to launch cyber warfare," the editorial said.

It claimed Washington had a "cyber army of 80,000 people equipped with over 2,000 computer viruses," citing a US defence expert, Joel Harker.
