Oz: Two Indians attacked in Brisbane
Melbourne, Jan 22: Two Indians, including a taxi driver, were attacked in separate incidents in Brisbane on Thursday night, Jan 21.

According to police officials, a 25-year-old youth was assaulted and robbed while using a phone box near his home in Macgregor in Brisbane's south.

"The youth, whose identity was not disclosed, was punched in the head twice and his wallet stolen," a police official was quoted by news agency as saying.

In a separate incident, a taxi driver was attacked at about early this morning, Jan 22, after an argument broke out with two men in Carindale, in Brisbane's southeast.

The men punched the driver in the face several times and smashed the car's windscreen. The driver was taken to the Princess Alexandra hospital for cuts to his face and swelling to his right eye.

Meanwhile, the government again stressed that there was no indication that the attacks were racially motivated.

Home detention for Dr Mohamed Haneef

Melbourne, July 27: Charges against Indian doctor Mohamed Haneef may have been dropped, but he would still be kept under detention till the Immigration Department decides whether to reinstate his visa or deport him. But it would come as a relief to the Indian doctor, his family and supporters that Haneef would not be moved to Immigration Detention as charges against him have been dropped now. its not safe for indians in australia. its a disgrace they should all go home until it is safe. its not even safe for aussies but we got no where to go.
