Fog disrupts flights at Delhi airport

New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Severe cold and fog on Friday morning brought bad news for air travelers as around 70 domestic and international flights were either cancelled or delayed due to the dense fog at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.

An official at the IGI airport said, "Around 32 flights have been rescheduled and six have been cancelled while several others were delayed due to dense fog at the airport."

The dense fog began to descend at the airport around 1:30 a.m., thereby reducing the general visibility to zero.

The runway visibility dropped down to 75 meters as the fog began to thicken in the wee hours on Friday.

There was chaos at the Delhi airport on Thursday as around 200 flights were delayed, 25 cancelled and around 28 diverted.

A number of morning flights were delayed by over three to four hours while a few operated using the CAT-III B instrument landing system.

The Meteorological Department has forecast that the foggy conditions would continue for the next two days due to high moisture content in the air.

Airport Meteorological Department Director-in-charge said, "The weather may change from January 24, when the western disturbance would become active." (ANI)
