Mumbai, Jan 22: After the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry's massive education reforms to de-stress Class 10 students across the country, it is now the turn of Maharashtra government.
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has paved way for a new system of offering a 'best of five' option to SSC students for junior college admissions.
In this system, the SSC students will be given the option to chose five of the six subjects which they can study and appear for the examination.
"We are thinking about the 'best of five' system, and discussing the issue with experts. Other boards are already having the system," minister of state for education Fauzia Khan said.
An official from education department said that the out of the six papers, the two language papers, including English and Marathi, will be mandatory.
Therefore, the student will be given an option to drop one of the remaining four subjects which includes Mathematics, Social Sciences, Science and Hindi.
The board has given clearance to the system and the government's approval is awaited.
