Tehran: SMS, e-mail to organise protest punishable
Tehran, Jan 16: The Tehran has declared the use of using SMS and e-mail to gather support for protests against the government as a punishable.

Warning offenders of prosecution and punishment, the General Esmaiel Ahmadi-Moqaddam in a news agency report, told organisers that using SMS or e-mails are traceable and can be controlled.

The decision came after the widespread use of SMS and e-mails by organisers to call for protests and to inform the public about related information.

The information recommended the use of appropriate anti-proxy software to gain access to websites filtered by the government.

In an attempt to deter the people form using the medium, Moqaddam said that the punishment of  those inciting the demonstration would be graver than those who attend it.

SMS and e-mails were being used to update information on the protests and unrests in the region due to the ban on foreign media to cover such incidents.

Change in group not to deter Tehran's policy: Iran
