Sena criticises Sachin Tendulkar's 'Save Water' ad

Shiv Sena criticises Sachin Tendulkar ad
Mumbai, Jan 15: Months after the party supremo's spat with the Sachin Tendulkar over his 'Mumbai for all' statement, Shiv Sena has criticised the new ad featuring the cricketer.

Even though Shiv Sena is happy that Tendulkar took out time to feature in a 'Save Water' advertisement campaign of the BMC, the Bal Thackeray-led party has raised a cry over the script of the 30 second short film.

"Sachin is a great player and he gave his precious time for the campaign. We are not against him. We are opposed to the way in which the message has been sought to be conveyed," said Sunil Prabhu, Shiv Sena leader in the civic body.

"Sachin says he has shifted from taking shower to using a bucketful of water for bathing. How would a common Mumbaikar understand this as only a few of them take shower," he said.

Agreeing with Sena's stand, BJP corporator Yogesh Sagar said, "In Mumbai 75 per cent of the people don't use shower, how can the message be accepted by common man if Sachin talks about shower."

The argument came up during the Standing Committee Meeting on Wednesday, Jan 13 when Prabhu said, "The common man should feature in the film instead of a celebrity."

Backing this statement, Sagar added, "They (BMC) must include either a school student or house wife or husband to ensure that the message is well understood and accepted by common man."

In the short film, the master blaster says, "I have stopped using shower while bathing. I use a bucket of water. You should also avoid the shower."

The water conservation message is delivered by the cricket superstar in Hindi and Marathi.
