New Delhi, Jan 15: With food items such as sugar, potatoes and pulses getting dearer, the wholesale prices-based Inflation rate for Dec 2009 jumped to 7.31 per cent.
This is much higher than the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) forecast of 6.5 pc-level by fiscal end.
The food inflation, which is measured based on prices of non-processed food articles, for Dec 2009 was at 19.17 per cent.
However, the food inflation measured for the week ending Jan 2 was marginally lower 17.28 per cent.
If the food inflation continues to ease, the overall inflation will also go down.
