Haiti earthquake kills nearly 50,000 people
Port-au-Prince, Jan 15: The killer earthquake in the Carribean nation Haiti has left nearly 50,000 people dead, the international Red cross said on Friday, Jan 15.

The international Red Cross said 45,000 to 50,000 people were killed in Tuesday's Jan 12, cataclysmic earthquake.

A handful of rescue teams from Virginia, France, China, were able to get down to work, scouring the rubble for survivors.

In Washington, President Barack Obama announced USD 100 millions aid.

The United States has launched a massive aid operation, including specialists, Coast Guard cutters, helicopters, transport planes and the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier, along with 2,000 Marines deployed.

India has issued USD 1 million to Haiti for immediate and emergency relief purposes.

The UN World Food Program is airlifting an additional 86 metric tons of food from its emergency hub in El Salvador including energy biscuits to sustain thousands of people over seven days.
