After China stir, Google lands in trouble in India

Pilot protests against Google
Bangalore, Jan 15: Internet major Google has run into more trouble in Asia as India now mulls over launching a protest against the search engine behemoth for showing Arunachal Pradesh as part of China on its maps.

While speaking to a NDTV, Minister of state for communication Sachin Pilot raised concern over the 'wrong' portrayal of the disputed Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.

“We have already taken up the matter. India will not stand and watch something like this whether it is Google or any other company. Wrong depiction is not tolerated," Pilot said.

This comes just after Google threatened to leave China over computer attacks that intruded into the e-mail accounts of human rights activists.

The Arunachal Pradesh map issue surfaced in 2009 amid the heightened tensions between the two countries over the disputed state.

In the past, Indian leaders have also launched protest against Google for featuring ads of clinics offering sex determination tests despite these procedures being banned in India.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat, who raised the issue in the Parliament, also called for a ban on the Internet major.
