Oslo, Jan 8: Amid the stir created by a cartoon published by Indian newspaper depicting a Australian policeman as a member of hate group Ku Klux Klan, a Norwegian daily newspaper reprinted the controversial 2005 Islam cartoon.
Aftenposten on Friday, Jan 8 reprinted cartoons featuring the Prophet Mohammed which were first published in a Danish newspaper in 2005 leading to a big controversy.
"We have always defended media's right to print these cartoons, and we printed a facsimile when the dispute began 2005," Aftenposten editor-in-chief Hilde Haugsgjerd wrote.
This reprint comes a week after a Somali man tried to attack the Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who drew the cartoon showing the prophet carrying a bomb in his turban.
In the other case, Australia has taken offense to a Delhi newspaper's cartoon showing a Victorian policeman as a white supremist, in the wake of the fatal attacks against Indian students down under.
