Yahoo signs deal with IIT-B
Bangalore, Jan 7: In an initiative that would help the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) students and faculty with research activities, Yahoo India has signed a pact with the institution to allow access to a group of servers running the Internet major's open source Hadoop software, and web data.

In a statement released on Thursday, Jan 7, the company said that the partnership would support IIT-B researchers study areas such as advanced searching and ranking techniques aimed at bridging the gap between unstructured, semi-structured and structured data, information extraction and natural language processing.

The agreement also provides the IIT-B researchers the access a cloud computing environment,  enabling them to carry out research on web-scale data.

The cluster provided by Yahoo has been set up at IIT-B and is already operational, the statement added.
