Pak enters new year with two terror strikes

Pakistan Bomb Blasts
Peshawar, Jan 2: At least 89 people were killed and over 80 injured when a suicide bomber detonated explosives in a crowded volleyball playground in northwest Pakistan on the new year's day.

The bomber drove a explosives-laden vehicle into the playground in the Shah Hasankhel village, located 25 km from Lakki Marwat in the southern part of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) at around 5: 30 pm on Friday, Jan 1.

In yet another attack, at least six people were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in was targeted with a roadside bomb in Bajaur region.

A tribal elder associated with an anti-Taliban militia was one among the six people killed in this attack.

These attacks are being considered as retaliation strikes to the efforts of the Shah Hasankhel residents to keep the Taliban out of the area.
